The Daniela Medical Trust (No. T382/07) is an organisation supporting Namibian children with kidney or liver diseases. At Petra Jewellery Design, social responsibility is an important part of our business: we believe in supporting the community in which we live. As well as donations, the Okanti Kidz jewellery range featuring original t-shirts and jewellery has been established to support the Daniela Medical Trust.

About Daniela
Daniela von Leipzig received a liver transplant on 12 November 2008 at Charité Clinic, Berlin. The 6 hour operation was successful without any complications - a true miracle, since it was a very complicated procedure due to her abnormal blood vessels. Daniela is back at home after the operation and doing very well. She herself says that she is feeling fine. Her blood test results are ok, and the specialist and surgeon are happy with her progress. There are no signs of rejection up to now - we are very positive and hopeful.

Since our move to Berlin in August 2008, we have endeavored to get medical aid cover in Germany, hoping that the medical aid would carry at least part of the costs. Charité International has informed us last week that the medical aid has agreed to cover the complete costs of the transplant. We hereby confirm that the amount which was transferred by the trustees out of the DANIELA MEDICAL TRUST (registered as No. T382/07 at the High Court in Namibia) to Charité International as deposit for the listing of Daniela on EUROTRANSPLANT and for her liver transplant operation, has been transferred back into the trust account.

We wish to thank everyone who put his/her trust in the DANIELA MEDICAL TRUST and has donated so generously towards the trust. Together with other moneys which have been generated in Namibia since then, the DANIELA MEDICAL TRUST now has a considerable sum, with which it can operate according to its trust deed: to assist other Namibian children with kidney - or liver diseases. We would like to encourage you to continue promoting the DANIELA MEDICAL TRUST, so that it goes from strength to strength.

At the end of December, Daniela celebrated her 11th birthday and we, her parents and her sister Ramona, are extremely grateful that it was a happy birthday! We would like to thank everybody who supported us with sms's, calls and emails and who encouraged us and let us know that we are not alone, especially during the difficult hours of the operation, when we could not yet know how wonderfully everything would work out. It meant so much to us!

We are especially grateful to the family of the anonymous liver donor, for their kindness and incredible strength in agreeing to donate the organs of their beloved one, in an hour of mourning. We know that contrary to us, this family spent Christmas in great sadness and this reminds us what a great gift we have received - a new chance for Daniela to lead a healthy life.

We have experienced the power of believing in the impossible dream, of trust, friendship, love and generosity on the one hand and medical progress and expertise on the other hand, but we know that above all, it is a gift out of God's hand - Who arranged everything perfectly.
